Värttinä Surges to the Summit of World Music Charts Europe for July 2025

The album Kyly by Finnish folk stars Värttinä Secured the coveted top position of World Music Charts Europe for the month of July 2025. Kyly is their 14th studio album. It draws on centuries-old Karelian vocal traditions.

Formed in 1983 in the village of Rääkkylä, Värttinä rose to international prominence in the early 1990s with acclaimed albums like Oi Dai and Seleniko. Since then, they’ve toured globally, scored the Lord of the Rings stage musical (2006), and earned the WOMEX Artist Award (2012).

Recent collaborations include performances with major orchestras and jazz ensembles.

Musicians: Susan Aho (vocals, accordion), Mari Kaasinen (vocals, kantele), Karoliina Kantelinen (vocals, flute, kantele), Mikko Hassinen (percussion), Matti Laitinen (strings, vocals), and Lassi Logrén (fiddle, jouhikko, vocals).
