José de los Camarones Mixes Flamenco, Psychedelia, and Mysticism in Aventuremos la Vida

José de los Camarones – Aventuremos la vida (LB Discos, 2025)

Following the release of the single of the same name, Aventuremos la Vida marks a bold new chapter for flamenco singer José de los Camarones. The groundbreaking Spanish flamenco singer presents a recording where mysticism and psychedelia meet. Fur sure, this recording weaves the unexpected, from the verses of Santa Teresa of Ávila, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer to Omar Khayyam.

Once a seafood vendor in Jerez (southern Spain), a hotbed for flamenco artists, and now an unconventional icon of contemporary flamenco, José de los Camarones has steadily built a reputation for breaking boundaries. Over the years, he has collaborated with artists such as El Canijo de Jerez, Los Estanques, and María del Tango. He has also received multiple accolades, including the Melón de Oro, Candil de Manlleu, and Cante de Minas awards. His debut album, Anclé Mi Alma, introduced his deeply emotional style to the Spanish music scene and led to a nationwide tour.

Now, with Aventuremos la Vida, José returns with one of his most daring projects to date. Produced by Josema Pelayo and recorded by Richard Rodríguez at Estudio La Bodega, the album was mastered by Óscar Autie at El Cerrito Records in California. It presents a delicious and ambitious musical cocktail: flamenco guitars and palmas share space with electric bass, drums, keyboards, and a wide array of global instruments, including the Armenian duduk, Turkish baglama, and South Asian shehnai. Various vocal techniques, breath sounds, and throat singing further enhance the album’s flamenco innovation.

Throughout the album, José intertwines flamenco’s passionate emotions force with the language of Andalusian rock, folk, and progressive psychedelia. Although the instrumentation and arrangements are eclectic, the flamenco essence remains intact. As a result, Aventuremos la Vida presents a poetic and rhythmically adventurous vision, where the sacred becomes electric, and duende finds new ground to roam.
