Cellist Ana Carla Maza Sierra was born in Havana, Cuba in a musical family. Her father is acclaimed Chilean pianist Carlos Maza and her mother is Cuban guitarist Mirza Sierra.
Ana Carla started her cello classes at 8 and appeared on stage for the first time in Havana when she was barely ten.
At 13, she participated in an album with the project Carlos Maza en Familia. At 14, she played in the album Quererte.
Ana Carla began to absorb airs, rhythms, and chords before continuing her studies in several conservatories, in Cuba, in Spain, finally in France, where she arrived in 2012.
She moved to Paris in 2012 to study at the Conservatory and embarked on a solo career, performing classical, jazz and world music throughout Europe.
In 2018, she released Alma, inspired by the musical traditions of her childhood, from Brazilian bossa nova to Cuban habanera through a larger musical vocabulary. She incorporates Latin rhythms, pop tunes, jazz harmonies and classical techniques.
In 2020, at 24, Ana Carla Maza, returned to her roots and presented La Flor, an album of solo cello and voice, in search of absolute truth and intimacy. The album invites the listener on an imaginary journey to Latin America where she revisits the traditional music of her childhood as well as her own
compositions.
“I returned to the cello and the voice, which constitute my mantra of relief, my prayer of life,” she shared.
In 2023, Ana Carla Maza returned to her Cuban roots with an album titled Caribe.
Ana Carla currently lives in Tarragona, Spain.
