Double Trouble: Twin Fiddles Take Flight with “Cacklin’ Hen”

Bluegrass veterans Deanie Richardson and Kimber Ludiker, founding members of Sister Sadie and Della Mae, respectively, have announced a collaborative twin fiddle project, with their debut single “Cacklin’ Hen” released via Mountain Home Music Company.

Longtime champions of women in bluegrass, Richardson and Ludiker have spent years envisioning a twin fiddle recording. Their partnership highlights both a reverence for tradition and a fresh approach to the form. Rather than alternating solos in the conventional twin fiddle style, the two play in tight harmony throughout “Cacklin’ Hen,” blending spontaneous lead lines with responsive interplay.

The single features a high-caliber supporting cast: bassist Hasee Ciaccio, banjoist Kristin Scott Benson, mandolinist Tristan Scroggins, and guitarist Cody Kilby. Together, the ensemble delivers a driving, cohesive performance that respects the tune’s roots while adding new dimensions.

Mountain Home Music Company A&R Director Jon Weisberger called the project “an unbeatable combination” of innovation and tradition, praising the duo’s artistic vision and execution.
