Artist Profiles: New Grange

Through the vision of San Francisco Bay Area collaborators and string instrument virtuosos Marshall and Darol Anger, six celebrated acoustic music veterans formed New Grange. The ensemble took the listener on a journey into the heart of American folk music, the common ground from which jazz, blues and country music emerged.

NewGrange was composed of Philip Aaberg, Darol Anger, Alison Brown, Mike Marshall, Tim O’Brien and Todd Phillips. By looking backward to move forward, New Grange rendered an inspired interpretation of the United States’ rural soundscape, combining folk, bluegrass, gospel and western classical music with contemporary instrumentation (strings and piano).

In 1998 the group captured national attention with its critically acclaimed recording and cross-country concert tour titled A Christmas Heritage.
