Faraon Bantu y Champetaman – Futuro Ancestral (Palenque Records, 2020)

Futuro Ancestral presents a selection of champeta and other Afrocolombian genres performed by some of the top artists on the Palenque Records label. Champeta is a fascinating genre that came out of the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Played by sound systems known as picós, the irresistible champeta combines Colombian traditions with west African highlife, Congolese rumba, Jamaican music, electronic dance music and other influences brought to coastal Colombian by sailors and travelers.

This compilation includes new music as well as remixes and new versions of classic songs from the label’s catalog. Genres include champeta, currulao, electro, warapos, and Afrobeat.

Artists include Colombiafrica Orchestra, Las Alegres Ambulancias, Batata y su Rumba Palenquera, Dj Rata Piano, and Bleepolar. African guests featured: guitarists Bopol Mansiamina and Dally Kimoko from the Democratic Republic of the Congo D. R. of Congo; and Hadja Kouyate from Guinea Conakry.
