Costa Rica is located in Central America. The Limón province in eastern Costa Rica is the home of Afro-Costa Rican culture. Calypso music is performed in the area.

Costa Rican Music

Costa Rican music is rooted in European musical traditions that arrived from Spain during the colonial and postcolonial period, Caribbean coastal Afro-roots music such as Limonese Calypso, influences that arrived from South America (primarily Colombia) and from Mexico in the north.

Musical genres include aire nacional; balada tica; bolero nacional; calipso limonense; callejera; corrido; cumbia; danza criolla; jota; mazurca; polka; parrandera; pasillo costarricense; punto; swing; tambito; vals costarricense.
