Off The Cuff, On The Beat: FlamencoEñe Off At Planta Baja in Granada

Now in its fourth outing, FlamencoEñe Off 2025 returns with a program centered on experimental and contemporary approaches to flamenco. The lineup features Lara Wong & Melón Jiménez, Gitano de Palo, Rezelo, Dechipén, Ruido Clavel, and Sebastián Cruz. Events run from September 17 to 19 at 9:00 p.m., with free admission until capacity is reached, at the iconic Planta Baja, Calle Horno de Abad, 11, in Granada.

On Wednesday, September 17, Canadian flutist Lara Wong and Spanish-German guitarist Melón Jiménez give the world premiere of Alterflamenco, a project that explores flamenco forms through electronic pulses. That same night, the A Coruña artist Gitano de Palo presents his eclectic debut album, Alaiar, which also bridges those two realms.

The following evening brings Rezelo, the duo of Miguel Barrientos and María Bartolomé, who reexamine popular tradition from a contemporary perspective. Later, the Jerez-based group Dechipén offers fresh readings of emblematic coplas from Cádiz.

The series concludes on Friday, September 19, with Ruido Clavel, the voice and percussion of Helena Amado alongside the experimental guitar of Pedro Rojas Ogáyar, an exponent of the modern copla with an openly hybrid spirit. Closing the program, the cantaor Sebastián Cruz presents Zarabanda, an album that departs from strict flamenco codes while drawing on baroque music.
