Artist Profiles: Startijenn

Startijenn is one of the leading acts in the Breton folk music scene. The quintet performs regularly at Brittany’s festou-noz (traditional dance festivals) as well as in folk and world music festivals abroad, where they have forged an identity, skill, and notoriety.

Their modern sound is rooted in Breton culture, although they kick it up with a large dose of rock energy. Notably, several of their albums were awarded Breton album of the year.

Alhtough the band members have changed throughout the years, the 2022 lineup included Tangi Le Gall-Carré on button accordion; Lionel Le Page on binioù and uilleann-pipes; Tangi Oillo on guitar; Youenn Roue on bombard and vocals; and Julien Stévenin on bass.

In 2022, Startijenn was selected to perform at the official showcase presented by influential world music conference WOMEX.
