Iranian musician Kayhan Kalhor is one of the finest performers of the kamancheh (spike fiddle) and he is known for his masterful collaborations with musicians from the East and West. On Kula Kulluk Yakisir Mi he continues his productive partnership with virtuoso baglama performer Erdal Erzincan from Erzurum in Turkey.
Kula Kulluk Yakisir Mi is the title of a folk song the late Muhlis Akarsu, who was a skillful baglama player. The album title translates as “How unseemly it is to follow anyone slavishly.” Kula Kulluk Yakisir Mi” was recorded live in Bursa, Turkey, in February 2011.
The music on Kula Kulluk Yakisir Mi Mi consists of a series of mesmerizing of pure improvisations as well wonderful contemporary recreations of traditional melodies from various parts of Turkey and Iran. Kayhan Kalhor and Erdal Erzincan also reinterpret ‘The Wind,’ a piece that appeared in their 2004 album titled The Wind. The album ends with ‘Intertwining Melodies,’ a medley that brilliantly interconnects Persian and Turkish music.
