The newly created Transglobal World Music Hall of Fame has announced the first inductees. The Hall of Fame includes three categories: Artist, Industry and Media Excellence, and In Memoriam.
The first inductees are:
Artist
- Caetano Veloso (Brazil)
- Susana Baca (Peru)
- Fatoumata Diawara (Mali)
- Janusz Prusinowski (Poland)
- Ry Cooder (USA)
The Artist category honors solo and ensemble living artists who have achieved lifelong artistic and technical quality or historical significance in the field of world music.
Industry and Media Excellence
- Birgit Ellinghaus – Alba Kultur (Germany)
- WOMAD/Real World Records/Peter Gabriel (UK)
- WOMEX (Germany)
Industry and Media Excellence celebrates influential music industry and media individuals and organizations who have provided increased visibility and recognition to world music and its multiple subgenres.
In Memoriam
- Ali Farka Touré (Mali)
- Ravi Shankar (India)
- Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Pakistan)
- Alan Lomax (USA)
- Violeta Parra (Chile)
In Memoriam includes posthumous inductions that honor historically inventive and influential artists or industry professionals who passed away in previous years or decades.
Inductees were selected by three panels of judges that included members of the Transglobal World Music Chart as well world music industry professionals.
