Artist Profiles: Vigen Hovsepyan

Vigen Hovsepyan is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist of Armenian origin. A self-taught musician, he plays guitar, duduk, darbuka, bendir, and cajón. Born in 1987, Hovsepyan grew up in the Erebuni district of Yerevan, Armenia. He became deeply interested in music when he moved to Barcelona, Spain at the age of 14. By the age of 17, he was proficient in various musical instruments.

In addition to his solo career, Hovsepyan was a member of both the HAV Folk Trio and Barcelona Ethnic Band. He has also collaborated with Norwegian composer, pianist and cellist Håvard Enstad.

In 2017, Hovsepyan released the album Echoes: Revived Armenia Folk Songs. The goal was to reawaken various songs in danger of disappearing. The album featured guest artists such as Ara Dinkjian (ud), Miqayel Voskanyan (tar) as well duduk masters Harutyun Chkolyan and Arsen Petrosyan.

Vigen Hovsepyan currently lives in Yerevan, Armenia.
