Despite hailing from a faraway place called Matinho, a spot devoid of electricity and clean water until a decade ago, Elida has managed to take her authentic self from the heart of Santiago to the global stage.

Her songwriting and performances exude maturity, talent, and an incredible generosity. It all began in 2014 when producer José da Silva discovered her, the same visionary who introduced Cesária Évora to the world. Now, eight years since her breakthrough, Elida Almeida reflects on her extraordinary journey and how far she’s come.
