Miguel Zenón‘s Vision of the history of the American Continents

Miguel Zenón – Música de Las Américas (Miel Music, 2022)

Música de Las Américas” (Music of the Americas), the latest album from acclaimed Puerto Rican saxophonist, composer and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón, focuses on the history of North and South America.

Zenón skillfully uses saxophone-fueled contemporary jazz and captivating traditional music rhythms from Puerto Rico, Haiti and other areas to illustrate the history of the peoples that inhabited the Caribbean, the great empires of the Americas, revolutions during the past centuries and other aspects.

This music is inspired by the history of the American continent: not only before European colonization, but also by what’s happened since—cause and effect,” says Miguel Zenón.

The album features Zenón’s longtime working quartet with Luis Perdomo on piano, Hans Glawischnig on bass and Henry Cole drummer along with outstanding Puerto Rican percussionists such as Los Pleneros de La Cresta, Paoli Mejías, Daniel Díaz and Victor Emmanuelli.
