Percussion-Enriched Cuban Piano Works

Yamilé Cruz Montero & Christos Asonitis – Rapsodia Cubana (Naxos World, 2021)

Rapsodia Cubana presents a delightful set of Cuban-flavored piano pieces performed by superb instrumentalist Yamilé Cruz Montero along with Greek percussion master Christos Asonitis.

The two artists selected works originally written for piano by some of the finest Cuban classical and jazz composers: Ernán López-Nussa, Aldo López-Gavilán, José Maria Vitier and Andrés Alén.

Yamilé Cruz Montero’s skillful style gracefully intertwines Cuban tradition, classical and Latin jazz elements. Christos Asonitis contributes a wide range of global percussion instruments, including drum set, conga, cajón, pandeiro, guiro, maracas and triangle.
