Artist Profiles: Séamus Begley

Séamus Begley

One of a family of nine brothers and sisters – all musicians – from the Dingle peninsula, Co. Kerry, Séamus Begley’s father was a singer and melodeon player and his mother a singer. He learned his first tunes from his sister Maire who, like himself, is a fine singer and box player.

Following on from the outstanding Begley and Cooney release Meitheal, Séamus’s CD, Ragairne (Revelling at Night), was recorded with guitarist Jim Murray and was voted 2001 Traditional Album of the Year in both Hot Press and The Irish Times.
