Seville’s Lope de Vega Theater Rejoins La Bienal with Major Flamenco Premieres

Seville’s historic Lope de Vega Theatre will return as a principal venue for La Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla following an extensive restoration. Its reopening renews a decades-long relationship with the influential flamenco festival and adds a major stage for premieres and exclusive performances.

The theater’s program begins on September 12, when pianist and composer Dorantes presents the world premiere of Fractal Arcano. On September 21, guitarist Rafael Riqueni will join Tim Ries, the saxophonist known for his work with The Rolling Stones, for the world premiere of Tunisia.

Further premieres will follow. David Coria will present the Spanish premiere of Babel. Torre Viva on September 29, while Alfonso Losa will debut a new production called Cuerpo de Baile on October 2.

The venue will also feature several exclusive performances. Arcángel will present La copla del cante on September 17, followed by Antonio Reyes with Seis cuerdas, seis on September 18. Aurora Vargas and Juana Amaya will appear in Hazme con los ojos señas on September 25.

On September 27, Fue tu querer will bring together Macarena de la Torre, Juan de Mairena, Lidia Hernández, Rafael de Utrera, Carmen Lozano, Manolo Marín and Ana María Bueno.

Mayte Martín will then present Arqueología de lo puro on September 30.
