Le Diable à Cinq Unleashes a Musical ‘Tempête’

Le Diable à Cinq – Tempête (self-release, 2023)

Le Diable à Cinq, the renowned Québécois musical ensemble, charms with their multiflavored new album, Tempête. The quintet wrote and composed all the original tracks and created fresh arrangements of songs and tunes from the traditional repertoire as well.

Tempête represents a wave of innovative ideas. Indeed, while steadfastly rooted in tradition and essence, the album also features a deeply gratifying infusion of contemporary influences. Within the album you’ll find the traditional and joyful Québécois foot stomping rhythms, engaging call and response vocals and stellar instrumental performance. Notably, the enticing and dazzling violin and accordion melodies range from Celtic music to bluegrass influences.

Le Diable à Cinq is a high energy traditional music group made up of five multi-instrumentalists and singers native to Ripon, in Outaouais, whose mission is to revive the festive evenings in which its members grew up. It is also a family story featuring three brothers, a cousin and a friend who share the stage with remarkable complicity. With their explosive stage presence, the five devils set the evening alight to the sound of energetic, warm and irresistible music.

Since its formation, the group has given nearly 150 concerts throughout Canada, the United States and Europe, including at the influential WOMEX world music conference in Portugal, and as part of the Québécofolies in Belgium. More recently, in 2023, the ensemble embarked on a new tour, between Quebec and Europe, which will take it to Spain, Latvia, Estonia, and even Switzerland.

In Quebec, they opened for Cowboys Fringants in front of 40,000 people during the regional South Shore National Day, in addition to making a notable appearance at the Tadoussac Song Festival. Standing! (2019), the group’s second album, was nominated for the JUNO, the GAMIQ, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, in addition to winning the My First Nomination prize at the ADISQ.
