Global Mashup Concert in Queens, New York, Colombia Meets Klezmer

The Global Mashup Concert, set to take place on Saturday, May 6 in Queens, New York, promises to be a unique experience that combines musical styles from different parts of the world. The concert will showcase the Cumbia River Band and the Klezmer all-star band Di Shikere Kapelye, also known as The Inebriated Orchestra.

The Cumbia River Band specializes in a joyful repertoire that draws from traditional Colombian cumbia and Riverside music. Their music is evocative of the golden years of cumbia and is sure to inspire listeners to dance and revel in the energy of the Cumbia River. With their dynamic use of tuba, accordion, clarinet, percussion, guitar, and vocals, the band delivers a captivating performance that seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary sounds.

Di Shikere Kapelye, also referred to as Frank London’s Klezmer Brass Allstars, is a high-energy ensemble that performs party music from Eastern Europe suitable for all occasions, from concerts and festivals to parties and parades. The klezmer group comprises accomplished musicians such as Frank London on the trumpet, Michael Winograd on the clarinet, Ron Caswell on the tuba, Ilya Shneyveys on the accordion, and Aaron Alexander on the drums.

With five critically acclaimed recordings and a live concert film, The Rooftop Concert, which was filmed during the pandemic, the band has established a significant following. Additionally, the band has collaborated with notable artists such as Yiddish singers Eleanor Reissa, Lorin Sklamberg, Sarah Gordon, Michael Alpert, Joshua Nelson, and klezmer clarinet legend Margot Leverett, among others. Di Shikere Kapelye is frequently featured at the HONK NYC Festival and has toured globally, captivating audiences with their distinctive blend of musical styles.
