Eva Amieva – Jardín de Colores (self-release, 2023)

Innovative Spanish artist Eva Amieva presents her scintillating self-released album Jardín de Colores (Garden of Colors). This set features mainly original songs dedicated to Cantabria, and neighboring Asturias, in northern Spain, drawing inspiration from the popular and traditional music of the region.

The tracks stand out for their charm, brimming with vitality, creativity, character, and empowerment. Jardín de Colores aims to renew, reinterpret, and revolutionize Cantabria’s traditional music, incorporating instruments like tambourines, snare drums, and bagpipes while maintaining the traditional essence in a contemporary and stylishly hip expression. This fusion extends to various musical genres, rhythms, especially urban and electronic, along with nods to 80s music, western classical elements, and traditional sounds intertwined with new technologies like samples, hence the album title.

The goal of this project is to both preserve tradition’s purity, roots, DNA, and genetic makeup, keeping it alive through oral transmission, while also embracing evolution and adaptation to contemporary times as a new manifestation of contemporary art. For sure, Jardín de Colores encourages exploring new formulas and embracing diverse sounds without prejudice.

Through reinterpretation, the songs are brought into the present, offering a musical genre meant to entertain, disconnect, focus, and dream about her Cantabrian region.
