Romanian ensemble Taraf de Caliu is a reincarnation of famed Gypsy (Roma) band Taraf de Haidouks. The founding members of Taraf de Haidouks were reunited around 2019 by Șaraimanic for a new project that was named Taraf de Caliu. The musicians from Clejani are the last generation of “lautari” that carry on this authentic traditional music from southern Romania, the music that defined them as one of the best Gypsy bands in the world.
Under the leadership of Gheorghe “Caliu” Anghel, the iconic violinist of the taraf, they are on the road again.
Taraf de Caliu includes Gheorghe “Caliu” Anghel on violin; Ionică Tănase on cimbalom; Marius “Marin” Manole on accordion, vocals; Sile Neacșu on bass; Filip Simeonov on clarinet; Viorica Rudăreasa on vocals; and Ionuț Gulună on vocals.
