Linda Ronstadt - Feels Like Home: Songs from the Sonoran Borderlands

The Musical Cross-Pollination of the Sonoran Borderlands

Linda Ronstadt – Feels Like Home: Songs from the Sonoran Borderlands (Putumayo, 2022)

The new album Feels Like Home: Songs from the Sonoran Borderlands is the audio companion to award-winning singer Linda Ronstadt’s new book, Feels Like Home: A Song for the Sonoran Borderlands (Heyday Books).

The musical collection was co-selected by Ronstadt (granddaughter of Mexican immigrants) and Putumayo founder Dan Storper. It includes influential songs from Ronstadt’s childhood and career, as well as several of her own performances of classic Mexican songs. The impressive roster of artists includes acclaimed performers such as Lalo Guerrero, Ry Cooder, Jackson Browne, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Neil Young, Taj Mahal, David Hidalgo and Los Cenzontles.

The album exemplifies the musical and ethnic melting pot of the region, where the guitar and poetic traditions brought by settlers from Spain mix with the accordions carried by German immigrants, the songs of indigenous people and the country and folk music of the English-speakers.

Lalo Guerrero, known as the “father of Chicano Music” would frequently visit his good friend Gilbert, Linda’s father, early in Linda’s life, teaching her and her siblings traditional Mexican songs.

On the book Feels Like Home, Grammy award-winning singer Linda Ronstadt gracefully describes the bewitching landscapes of the Sonoran borderlands, as well as its people and food culture. This is an area sculpted by wind, and Rondstadt provides the reader a personal tour of the region where she grew up.

The extensive CD booklet includes an introduction by Rondstadt, song notes and credits and photos.
