Black String is a South Korean quartet led by Yoon Jeong Heo, an educator, Artistic Director of Seoul’s Bukchon Changwoo Theater, and one of few female masters of the geomungo, a traditional Korean zither. The ensemble’s name is inspired by the geomungo.
The ensemble combines centuries-old musical instruments with electric guitar and rhythms, developing a distinctive and timeless percussive sound, at once modern and ancient.
The ensemble members in 2022 included Yoon Jeong Heo on geomungo; Jean Oh on electric guitar; Aram Lee on daegeum, sogeum, yanggeum; and Min Wang Hwang on janggu, vocals.
