Warm Contemporary Flemish Folk

Trio Dhoore – August (Trad Records, 2019)

Trio Dhoore comes from Flanders in Belgium and their sound is characterized by the interaction between the hurdy gurdy, accordion and accordion.  Although the instrumental music is rooted in Flemish traditions, Trio Dhoore also incorporates Celtic music elements and progressive folk influences through the use of evocative brass and tasteful synthesizers.

The finely-crafted tunes are inspired by stories of Flemish fishermen traveling long distances to Iceland in the 1800s, inspiration at a farmhouse, safe harbors, the enjoyment of bonfires, the pleasure of live performances abroad, a tribute to creative graphic artists, favorite recording studios, the challenge of rehearsing while living in different counties, and gratitude to their parents who provided a warm nest and encouraged creativity.

The lineup includes Koen Dhoore on hurdy gurdy; Hartwin Dhoore on diatonic accordion; and Ward Dhoore on acoustic and electric guitar, kick, synthesizers and soundscapes. Guests include Gregory Van Seghbroeck on euphonium and bugle; and producer Jeroen Geerinck on harmonium and synthesizers.
