Finely-crafted Breton Bombard and Bagpipe Tunes and songs

Bodénès-Hamon & Invités – Daou don dañs (Paker Prod, 2016)

“Daou don dañs” (two tunes to dance in the Breton language) is an excellent album of modern Breton folk music by two highly-esteemed musicians, Steven Bodénès and Sylvain Hamon. The two instrumentalists are members of two leading bagpipe bands in Britany (France).

Steven Bodénès is a bombard (Breton double reed folk instrument) player and conductor of the famous Bagad Kemper, and Sylvain Hamon is a bagpiper from the equally well-known Bagad Cap Caval. Bodénès and Hamon have been playing together as a duo for about 15 years.

Daou don dañs contains traditional music pieces masterfully rearranged by Bodénès and Hamon featuring guitars, electric bass and vocals on some songs. The albums contains a mix of lively folk dance material and slow tempo tunes including gavottes, ballads and slow-air instrumentals.

The lineup includes Steven Bodénès on bombards and vocals; Sylvain Hamon on bagpipes; Rozenn Talec on vocals; Julien Le Mentec on bass; Thibault Niobe on guitar; and Xavier Chavry on Scottish tenor drum.
