Winnipeg Folk Festival 2010 Main Stage Schedule Announced

Winnipeg_FolkFestival40thWinnipeg (Manitoba), Canada – The Winnipeg Folk Festival is pleased to announce the 2010 Main Stage schedule, which includes top word music, folk and roots music acts. Highlights include the Wailin’Jennys, Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Cliff, The Levon Helm Band, Sonny Landreth, Aterciopelados, The Peatbog Faeries and Hot Tuna.

The festival also announced the addition of Gord Downie and The Country of Miracles who will perform on Sunday night. Renowned as much for his compelling onstage presence as his eclectic original music and lyrics, Downie’s expressive songs are filled with timeless messages and imagery centered on Canadian themes. Additional performers announced include Kinnie Star, Ghostkeeper, and Manitoba’s own Trio Bembe.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival, celebrating 37 years in 2010, is one of North America’s premier outdoor music festivals. It takes place each summer over the second weekend in July in Birds Hill Provincial Park, Manitoba, Canada, with the 2010 festival running from July 7 to 11.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is also a year-round arts organization in Winnipeg with education and outreach programs designed to benefit the community through presenting live music, music training, arts events, and operating a folk music store and performance space in Winnipeg’s Old Market Square. The Winnipeg Folk Festival is a not-for-profit charitable organization.

Ticket Information: Early bird tickets are on sale until May 31 at the Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store 211 Bannatyne Avenue at Albert, or through Ticketmaster (204) 780-3333, 1-888-655-5354, www.ticketmaster.ca. Early bird prices: Five-day passes $176.50 for adults, $101.25 for youth and seniors, $10.50 for children (5-14). Day passes for adults are $55.50, $40.00 for youth and seniors, and $5.25 for children (5-14).

The Festival Campground is sold-out however five-day passes with camping in the Quiet Campground are still available ($209.50 for adults).
