Luca Vaillancourt y Los Pescadores – Cantes transatlánticos (Luca Vaillancourt de Dios, 2025)

Luca Vaillancourt y Los Pescadores (Luca Vaillancourt and the Fishermen) make their debut with Cantes transatlánticos (transatlantic chants), a six-track album that explores the musical currents flowing between Spain in the Iberian Peninsula and Spanish-speaking Latin America. The concept draws on the tradition of cantes de ida y vuelta, songs that crossed the Atlantic and returned transformed. This way, the group reimagines these forms through jazz harmony, improvisation, and contemporary songwriting.

The result is a warm, welcoming, acoustic sound that mixes traditional folk elements and flamenco jazz with a modern sensibility. Traditional instruments like the cuatro venezolano, Argentine bombo legüero, and maracas are integrated into a jazz-influenced ensemble.

The ensemble is led by Luxemburger-Spanish guitarist, singer, and composer Luca Vaillancourt de Dios. The quintet includes Gabriel Montenegro Perini (piano), Gustavo Andrés Jaramillo Pimentel (trumpet, flugelhorn, maracas, backing vocals), Arturo Ramirez Hintze (drums), and Patricia Mancheño (double bass). Notably, the group includes musicians from Spain, Colombia, and Mexico.

Cantes transatlánticos was recorded and mixed by Charel Stoltz at Holtz Sound in Luxembourg and mastered by Marci Fenyvesi. Its music, layered, spacious, and deeply acoustic, mirrors the cultural crossings at the heart of the project.
