Arthur de Faria & Pedro Longes – Canciones con Drama (YB Music, 2025)
Arthur de Faria and Pedro Longes have issued their debut album, Canciones con Drama (songs with drama). A successful crowdfunding campaign financed this release. The album translates their touring stage show, active since 2023, into seven studio tracks.
The program draws on the music of the bottom half of South America. Piano, voices, mandolin, Argentine bombo legüero, and synthesizers are the primary musical instruments used in Canciones con Drama. The passionate songs range from Noel Rosa’s “Quando o Samba Acabou” to Fernando Cabrera’s “El tiempo está después,” sung in Portuguese and Spanish, alongside new works with Brazil’s Alessandra Leão, Argentina’s Acho Estol (La Chicana), and Nobel laureate Gabriela Mistral (Chile).
Sessions took place in São Paulo with guests Miriã Farias (violin), Natalia Melo Saa (spoken word), and Ernesto Fagundes (bombo legüero). The result is a fascinating dialogue between tradition and reinvention, rooted in the traditions of Brazil and Argentina yet open to wider influences.
