The album cover for Harold López-Nussa – Nueva Timba features a mosaic-like painting of a jazz ensemble. Musicians play instruments including piano, bass, trumpet, congas, and trombone, dressed in suits and hats, evoking a vintage Cuban jazz scene. The top has a bold red banner with the artist's name and album title in yellow, along with the Blue Note logo in the lower left corner.

Cuba’s Harold López-Nussa Recasts “Gitanerías”

Cuban pianist Harold López-Nussa has released “Gitanerías,” his interpretation of Ernesto Lecuona’s piece and the latest single from his Blue Note Records album Nueva Timba, due September 5.

The track appears as a duo, with López-Nussa on piano and his brother, drummer Ruy Adrian López-Nussa, on flamenco cajón.

The arrangement pairs driving percussion with Lecuona’s melodic lines, yielding a concise, dance-leaning reading.

Across Nueva Timba, López-Nussa combines Cuban traditions with contemporary forms.
