Rocío Márquez unveils Aire – Tangos, a bright, contemporary take on traditional flamenco tangos and the second single from her upcoming album Himno Vertical. Opening with a spoken-word intro, the track transitions into a catchy chorus driven by clever wordplay. Stylistically, it maintains a traditional flamenco base while incorporating refined, modern compositional elements.
Her vocal delivery is expressive and fluid, exploring melodic lines with subtle nods to contemporary aesthetics. She is accompanied by a clean, elegant guitar and crisp percussion, all anchored by steady, well-timed palmas.
Looking ahead, Himno Vertical promises a thoughtful fusion of classic flamenco, experimental soundscapes, and literary reflection. The project explores artistic authorship and creative inspiration, featuring Márquez on vocals alongside both Spanish and electric guitar by Pedro Rojas Ogáyar.
The album will include fandangos, tangos, verdiales, soleá, seguiriya, malagueña, and bulerías, with original lyrics and adaptations of texts by Shakespeare, Juan del Encina, and Friedrich Schiller. It represents another bold step in Márquez’s evolving career.
With nearly three decades of artistic exploration behind her, Rocío Márquez is as a leading voice in contemporary flamenco. Her discography, marked by acclaimed releases such as Firmamento (2017), Visto en el Jueves (2019), and Tercer Cielo (2022) with Bronquio, exemplifies a fearless dialogue between heritage and innovation. Additionally, her collaborations with artists like Jorge Drexler, Christina Rosenvinge, and Kiko Veneno, as well as her contributions to film scores (Teresa, Pico Reja, Entre dos aguas), further underscore her creative range and cultural impact.
