Analog Africa will release its latest compilation, Congo Funk! – Sound Madness From The Shores Of The Mighty Congo River (Kinshasa/Brazzaville 1969-1982), on April 5, 2024, available in 2xLP, CD, and digital formats. The gatefold double LP, pressed on 140g virgin vinyl, includes a vibrant 16-page booklet, while the CD version features a colorful 32-page booklet.
This compilation offers a glimpse into the vibrant musical landscape of Kinshasa and Brazzaville, drawing from a selection of approximately 2,000 songs, primarily from the 1970s. Congo Funk! presents fourteen dynamic and captivating tracks, showcasing the diverse talents of both veteran and emerging artists who propelled Rumba music to unprecedented heights, infusing it with an irresistible groove that captivated audiences across Africa.
The compilation kicks off with “Sungu Lubuka” by Petelo Vicka et Son Nzazi, originally recorded in 1982 at Studio Renapec in Kinshasa. Despite its limited release, the track has endured over four decades, retaining its funky essence and serving as a fitting introduction to Analog Africa’s latest compilation.
