“Not a Violin Duo” is an exquisite album of modern fiddle music rooted in Finnish traditions. Teho.’s musicians are extremely versatile professionals, who know the Nordic Folk Music tradition inside out. Järvelä and Hyväluoma combine musical elements beautifully and creatively. Notably, they have mastered their instruments to a virtuoso level, giving them unlimited musical possibilities.
Teho. can be described as a groundbreaking Finnish power-fiddle duo. It is important to realize that Teho’s fiddlers grew up in Central Ostrobothnia, an area known for its extremely fertile and rich folk music life.
In terms of musical genres, the duo eloquently combines Finnish traditional fiddling, Norwegian halling, Swedish polska, bebop, western swing from the United States, and original contemporary folk music.
Improvisation also plays an essential role in Teho.’s sound. Tero Hyväluoma and Esko Järvelä are both top-notch names in the Nordic folk music field and cross-over freelancers without genre boundaries. They have played together for years in various different bands and projects, including one of the most well known Finnish folk bands, Frigg.
Teho.’s debut album was nominated for the Emma Awards (the top recording industry award in Finland) in 2018. So far, Teho. has toured in Finland, Norway, USA, Canada, Estonia, Germany, and Luxembourg.
