Alienda: The Asturian Power Folk Ensemble

Alienda, an Asturian folk group hailing from Spain, came into existence in 2013. Distinguished by their distinctive genre known as “power folk,” Alienda adeptly combines the rich tapestry of traditional Asturian music and instruments with elements borrowed from diverse musical styles.

Their inaugural studio work, the EP Alendando, was unveiled in 2014, encompassing four compositions that aptly represent the group’s artistry. Since their inception, Alienda has graced numerous stages, both within their native Asturias and across the rest of Spain, along with performances abroad, in France, where they notably partook in the iconic Festival Interceltique de Lorient. In 2015, they were the proud recipients of the prestigious AMAS award for their remarkable “Best Folk Song” titled “Rucaúres.”

At its core, Alienda comprises six gifted members, each instrumental in shaping the group’s sonorous identity. Bárbara González-Quevedo Pedrayes on violin and vocals; Illán Escalada Martinez on bagpipe and vocals; Francisco Rodríguez Buznego on bouzouki; Edu Llosa García on drums and percussion; Carlos Castro Vázquez on bass; and Emilio Amboage Rodríguez on guitar.

In the year 2023, Alienda revealed their debut full-length album, aptly titled “Alienda.” This musical odyssey encapsulates a vast array of instrumental and vocal compositions, predominantly crafted by the group themselves, intermingled with select traditional pieces given novel treatment by the ensemble.
