Russian musician and composer Riya Volkova has released a new album titled “Пряди воды” (Tresses of the Water). Volkova lives in Zelenograd, not far from Moscow, although she explores the cultural diversity of Karelia and the Russian north.
Riya Volkova plays the traditional kantele (zither) in a cutting edge way, using effects, and combining its trance-like sounds with mesmerizing electronica. She and sings in Karelian dialects and other endangered languages.
