Dom La Nena – Tempo (Six Degrees, 2021)
Brazilian singer-songwriter and cellist Dom La Nena (Dominique Pinto) delivers an album of graceful, peaceful, and gentle poetic songs. On Tempo she combines dream pop, chamber string music and South American rhythms from Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina with tremendous ease.
Tempo (time in Portuguese) features vocals in Portuguese, Spanish and French. Dom explains the album’s concept: “We give value and attention to so many things, but we forget the essentials: our time and focus, being present, which is the most precious thing we have.”
Dom La Nena played all the instruments on Tempo. She skillfully added lovely layers of her voice, the cello (creating a chamber string ensemble feel), and added some piano parts as well. The percussion sounds on the album were made on the cello. Dom also transformed the cello’s sound in parts of Tempo by using pedals, guitar amplifiers, and effects.
Dom’s discography includes Ela (2013), Soyo (2015) and Cantando (2016).
