Susana Seivane – Dende O Meu Balcón (Susana Seivane, 2020)
Dende O Meu Balcón (From My Balcony) showcases the talent of one of the leading bagpipers in Galicia, the northwestern region of Spain. Although bagpipes were traditionally played by men, Susana Seivane is one of a handful of women that have risen to the top of the bagpipe scene in Spain.
As daughter and granddaughter of well-known bagpipe makers, she grew up surrounded by the sounds of bagpipes and traditional music. On Dende O Meu Balcón, her sixth album, Susana Seivane celebrates Galician roots music with a set of traditional tunes and compositions by leading Galician musicians.
The masterfully-crafted album features 20 tracks with medleys of 55 tunes and songs. Mostly instrumental, Dende O Meu Balcón includes 8 bagpipes in different tonalities, sometimes overdubbed. Unlike previous works where Susana Seivane ventured into various types of fusions, on this album she sticks pretty much to tradition by using bagpipes and percussion, and occasionally vocals.
The lineup includes Susana Seivane on bagpipes and Carlos Freire on percussion as well as five members of the Seivane family on percussion and vocals: Antón, Maren, Fiz, Brais and Saínza.
me hace llorar de emoción…gracias Susana.
