Delightful Jazz Guitar Versions of Jobim Classics

Albare – Albare Plays Jobim (Alfi Records, 2020)

Albare Plays Jobim presents exquisite instrumental jazz guitar versions of Jobim’s bossa nova classics. Albare (Albert Dadon) is a jazz guitar maestro born in Morocco and based in Australia.  On Albare Plays Jobim he collaborates with superb Australian pianist and arranger Joe Chindamo who provides stylish piano and string arrangement work that gives it a vintage Brazilian flavor.

The rhythm section is outstanding. Albare invited one of the best jazz drummers on the current scene, United States-based Mexican drummer Antonio Sánchez who delivers skillful bossa nova beats. On bass, another fantastic musician, Puerto Rican player Ricardo “Ricky” Rodriguez.

In 1972, Albare came into contact with the music of Jobim while watching Marcel Camus’s cult movie, Orpheus Negro. The captivating melodies and unique compositions left a deep impression on the young guitarist and inspired Albare to study and play the melodic style for which he is now known for.
