Cándido Fabré was born on September 10, 1957 in San Luis, Cuba. He was the songwriter, arranger and main vocalist with Orquesta Original de Manzanillo from 1983 to 1993. In 1993 he formed his new, 15-piece band featuring some of the very best Cuban musicians. The lineup, similar to his previous orchestra, included three violins, keyboards, flutes, tres, piano, congas and other percussion instruments.
Fabré’s songs have been performed in Cuba by Orquesta Aragón, Los Van Van, Manguere, Isaac Delgado, Ritmo Oriental and Los Karachi, and on the international scene by Celia Cruz, Oscar D’León, and Willy Chirino.
The Cándido Fabré Orchestra has toured extensively, visiting Mexico, Colombia, Canada and Venezuela. Following the band’s appearance at the International Caribbean Festival in Cartagena (Colombia), a prominent Cartagena newspaper described him as: “The most versatile Cuban sonero” and described his vocal improvisations as “the greatest since Beny Moré”.
