Leicester, UK – Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty’s latest CD is Shrine (Sense
World Music). The live performance was held at the Queens Theatre in August
2003, with a repertory of Raga music and Bhajans. The pieces included are:
Raga Kalyan: Alap, Bada Khayal in Vilambit Ektaal, and Chotta Khayal in Teentaal;
Thumri: ‘Ab Na Satawo’ in Misra Tilang; and Bhajan: ‘Naina Ban Parhi.’For this performance Ajoyji was accompanied by tabla player, Yogesh Samsi, son
of the renowned vocalist Dinkar Kaikini. Yogesh is a highly respected artist of
the younger generation and one of the foremost disciples of the late tabla
virtuoso Ustad Alla Rakha Khan. Sri Chiranjib Chakrabarty accompanied Ajoyji on
the Harmonium. Sarwar E-Alam accompanied Ajoyji on the tanpura.
