Underwater Dub (Groove Attack, 2014)

Underwater Dub is a new collaboration between some of the best known artists in the dub genre: Sly & Robbie and the producer Alberto Blackwood. The previous collaboration was “Blackwood Dub” (2012).

For “Underwater Dub” the artists met at Harry J studio where they featured well-known musicians such as Mikey Chung, Radcliffe “Dougie” Bryan, Daryl Thompson, Robbie Lyn and Uziah “Sticky” Thompson.

The album features 10 tracks of analog reggae that uses echo extensively as well as lots of reverb and filter effects, along with classic dub rhythms.

Robbie and myself, Sly, we always like to create and play music when we did the first dub album “Blackwood Dub” at Harry J’s recording studio, at the great hallmark studio known for so many Jamaican hit recordings, some of them we were a part of doing,” said Sly Dunbar. “Now with the second dub album “Underwater Dub”, we just turn back the clock and came forward and started dropping the drum and bass, it felt so real so good – didn’t want to stop, just like in the old days we had great fun doing this record – nuff respect.”

Underwater Dub is an extraordinary gathering of dub masters.
