Pop and Shamanic Music on May 9 at EXIB 2015

The micro conferences returned to EXIB Música 2015 on Friday, May 9th at Azkuna Center in Alhondiga Bilbao. The first one was a presentation of La Sed de la Sal by Rubén Martínez Santana. This album project was crowdfunded through the Verkami platform.

 

 

Next, Argentine record label SuraMusic gave an overview of its catalog and philosophy. This indie label from Buenos Aires releases and promotes the music of various cultures within Latin America. Its catalog includes artists such as Mariana Baraj, Soema Montenegro, Ramos / Kerpel, Yamandú Costa, Yusa, Inti illimani-Historico, Totó la Momposina, Quique Sinesi, and many more. Meanwhile, on the second floor, there was the meeting of Iberoamerican music festivals. This gathering was facilitated by Roberto Gomez de la Iglesia. Participants reconvened in the afternoon to continue their networking activities.

The showcases on Friday were few and a mixed bag of roots music and pop-oriented acts. These concerts took place at a stage set up in the Atrium of the Alhondiga Bilbao. The highlight was Mexican multi-instrumentalist and singer Estusha who presented her electro-acoustic shamanic-style influenced by the ceremonies of Mesoamerican and American indigenous cultures. The other artists were pop and pop-rock acts Laura Guevara (Venezuela) and Siddhartha (Mexico). The night ended with a concert by talented Argentine singer-songwriter and guitarist Cecilia Zabala at Café La Granja downtown. Cecilia combines jazz, tango and various other musical forms.
