Greg Cahill and The Special Consensus were honored with their first International Bluegrass Music Awards (IBMA) awards in the 39 year history of the band. Special Consensus collected the Recorded Event trophy for their collaboration with Claire Lynch and Rob Ickes on “Wild Montana Skies” and the Instrumental Recorded Event award for their recording of “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” with fiddlers Michael Cleveland and Buddy Spicher guesting alongside the album’s producer and banjoist Alison Brown.

Both winning tracks are from The Special Consensus’ 2014 album Country Boy: A Bluegrass Tribute to John Denver. “We cannot thank our friends and fans enough for all the support over all 39 years of Special C touring and recording, our families for enduring our erratic tour schedules and Alison, Garry and all the Compass Records folks for believing in us,” said Greg Cahill.

The Special Consensus is an acoustic bluegrass quartet that began performing in the Midwest in the spring of 1975.

The band’s first album was released in 1979. In 1984, The Special Consensus initiated the Traditional American Music (TAM) Program in schools across the United States and began appearing on cable television and National Public Radio shows.

The current lineup includes Dustin Benson on guitar, lead vocals; Greg Cahill on banjo and harmony vocals; Dan Eubanks on bass and lead vocals; and Rick Faris on mandolin and lead vocals.
