Tito Alcedo - Janda
Tito Alcedo

Janda (2010)

Spanish guitarist is one of those excellent musicians that deserves more exposure. He was one of the pioneers of flamenco-rooted rock in the 1970s with progressive rock band Mantra. He later became interested in jazz and absorbed numerous influences ranging from Pat Metheny to Django Reinhardt. For many years, he’s worked as guitarist for Andalusian musician Javier Ruibal, one of the finest singer-songwriters in Spain. Ruibal returns the favor and accompanies Tito throughout his new album on percussion.

Janda is the title of Tito’s new album. It’s great to see him back in action. He suffered some ailments in recent years which kept him away from performing music. Janda is the name of the Cadiz region where Tito lives. It is a collection of beautifully crafted instrumental pieces which showcase the wide range of his guitar skills, including flamenco, jazz, Gypsy swing, Arabic influences and American-style contemporary instrumental music.

Even though he released the Agüita Salá album in 2001 on the reputable German Intuition Music label, he got caught in the middle of a major corporate transition which meant very little promotion for his masterful work.

Tito still lives in his beloved Barbate, the quaint fishing village in Spain’s Cadiz province. It’s no wonder that in such an environment he is making such exquisite music.
