The advent of Shanmukha and the chastisement of the asura in his three manifestations of Surapatuman, Singha-mukhan and Târakan, which are but the three evils in man Anava, Mâyâ, and Kanma and the extermination of these evil forces are yearly celebrated by the Skanda Shasti festival in the month of Aippasi in October-November. The festival at Tiruchendur is of six days, commencing on the sixth day of the waning moon of the month, as in every celebration of it in the Tamil land.

The Skanda Sashti Music Festival at the Mayur Vihar Sri Subha Sidhi Vinayaka Mandhir Socity, Pocket IV, Mayur Vihar Phase One, Delhi 110091, in collaboration with the Music Society "Issai Kudumbam" issaikudumbam@gmail.com is scheduled from the 31st Oct.08 to 05th Nov.08 from 0645 PM onwards.

Dr. Kanna Kumar a leading faculty member from the Faculty of Music & Fine Arts, Delhi University graces the occasion on Sunday the 2nd of Nov.08 with a Grand Vocal Music Concert. Dr. Kanna Kumar, a student of eminent musician and musicologist Prof. T.R. Subramaniam is gifted with a mellifluous voice. Dr. Kanna Kumar has imbibed not only a quality music acumen from Prof. T.R. Subramanaiam but also very many positive qualities like a spirit of spreading sweetness and light by extending his consultancy to many organizations for doing a quality work etc. and participating and encouraging small and regular musical bhaitaks (chamber music) where likeminded music lovers, students and vidwans get together and perform and discuss in a free and open forum. Well in this context every music lover misses the absence of Prof. T.R. Subramaniam in Delhi (presently his services are benefitted at Chennai) and even his prime student Dr. Radha Venkatachalam’s perpetuation of this noble concept is conspicuous in its discontinuance.

Dr. Kanna Kumar has a good track record from his youth, like ‘The NationalScholarship to Young Talent Artists’ from the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resources and Development in the year 1987 to 1989. , an Award of U.G.C. Research Fellowship from 1990 to 1995. , award of the title of "Delhi Yuva Kalakar" by 50 year old reputed organization of Delhi, Sree Shanmukhananda Sangeeta Sabha(Regd.) in the field of vocal Karnatic music in the year 2008 and so on. His research book titled ‘Patanam Subramanya Iyer’ – A "Beacon Light" Amongst Post Trinity Composers" is a well received book and a must – not only in the libraries but also with the students and lovers of Carnatic Music.

Well – Mayur Vihar is all agog to hear this fine artist from the Delhi University with talented accompanists Shri Kumbakonam Padmanabhan on the Mridangam and Shri VSK Annadurai on the violin.

All are welcome.
