Turkmen Music from Iran and Central Asia at Roulette

Oghlan Bakhshi and Zyyada Jumayeva are set to perform a rare program of Turkmen music at Roulette in New York on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 8:00 PM. This concert highlights music from the steppes of Iran and Central Asia, which is seldom performed in the U.S.

Oghlan Bakhshi, a master of the dutar (a two-stringed lute) and a prominent bard, is known for his efforts to introduce Turkmen traditional arts to Western audiences. He recently released Journey Across the Steppes, the first international album of Turkmen folk music in 30 years. Joining him is Zyyada Jumayeva, a dutar player and bard representing Turkmenistan’s female bardic tradition. Both artists were trained by renowned Turkmen masters and will showcase the rich musical heritage of their culture.

Presented by Robert Browning Associates, Lotus Music & Dance, and Roulette.
