Pirineos Sur, the most significant music event in Aragon and one of Spain’s longest-standing festivals, with over 30 years of history, is all set for its upcoming edition. Taking place from July 4th to 28th, 2024, the iconic floating stage of the International Festival of Cultures will once again emerge over the waters of the Lanuza reservoir. This 31st edition promises an array of captivating sounds from around the globe, featuring renowned artists such as Ricky Martin, Lila Downs, Loreena McKennitt, Sara Baras, and Mon Laferte, among many others.
The festival approaches a new edition with renewed vigor following last year’s celebration of its three-decade milestone. A cosmopolitan and diverse lineup awaits attendees, offering a mix of salsa, rock, jazz, flamenco, indie pop, folk, and reggae, catering to audiences of all ages and tastes.
Reflecting the festival’s intercultural spirit is the artwork by internationally acclaimed Mexican artist and muralist, David Piñón, known as Seher One. His vibrant illustrations, characterized by surreal and bizarre figures, adorn walls worldwide, mirroring the colorful and dynamic essence of Pirineos Sur 2024.
Embarking on a global journey (July 11th to 14th)
While the program for the first weekend awaits unveiling, the second weekend kicks off on Thursday, July 11th, featuring performances by Meute and Rodrigo Cuevas on the floating stage. Meute, a German marching band with a techno twist, showcases their unique blend of electronic tunes interpreted through traditional band instruments. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Cuevas, a prominent figure in the renewed folk music scene, brings his magnetic performances blending modernity with tradition.
On Saturday, July 13th, Loreena McKennitt, the spiritually rich Canadian artist known for her Celtic-inspired music, takes the stage. With over a decade of studio albums, McKennitt’s ethereal compositions have captivated audiences worldwide.
Closing the first weekend is the Grammy-winning Mexican singer, Lila Downs, presenting her latest album, La Sánchez, alongside beloved classics from her repertoire. Known for her powerful vocals and socially charged narratives, Downs’ music traverses folk, ranchera, and Latin American influences.
The same day features the influential Ethiopian multi-instrumentalist, Mulatu Astatke, recognized as the father of ethio-jazz, blending Latin and jazz influences with Ethiopian tradition.
Tradition, guitars, and new sounds (July 19th to 21st)
Flamenco takes center stage on Friday, July 19th, with performances by Carmen Linares and Sara Baras. Linares, a flamenco legend, shares the spotlight with Baras, celebrating 25 years of her company with a tribute to the guitar genius, Paco de Lucía.
Saturday, July 20th, brings a diverse mix of sounds, from the reggae vibes of Rawayana to the electronic folk fusion of Baiuca, merging traditional Galician music with contemporary electronic elements.
Closing the weekend on Sunday, July 21st, La Plazuela and Iseo & Dodosound combine flamenco roots with electronic and dub influences, offering a unique fusion of traditional and modern sounds.
Approaching the finale (July 23rd to 28th)
The festival’s grand finale features the iconic Latin artist Ricky Martin on Tuesday, July 23rd, followed by Silvia Pérez Cruz and Maro on Friday, July 26th, showcasing their diverse musical styles.
Saturday, July 27th, highlights both traditional and modern Latin sounds with La Lulu and Grupo Niche, offering salsa and cumbia.
Closing the festival on Sunday, July 28th, is the acclaimed Chilean artist Mon Laferte, known for her eclectic blend of Andean folk with rock, blues, and urban pop elements, followed by Marilia’s heartfelt compositions.

Beyond the music, Pirineos Sur offers a picturesque setting amidst the natural beauty of the Tena Valley in the Aragonese Pyrenees. With serene waters reflecting the majestic Peña Foratata mountain, the festival’s floating stage provides a breathtaking backdrop for each evening’s performances.
Additionally, the festival venue boasts a capacity of 4,900 attendees, divided into stone terraces, a waterside pit for close-up viewing, and an upper balcony for panoramic vistas.
Located between the charming village of Lanuza and the historic town of Sallent de Gállego, Pirineos Sur offers a range of outdoor activities, from hiking and kayaking to gastronomic delights, making it a family-friendly destination.
Promoting sustainability
This year, Pirineos Sur emphasizes sustainability by improving access and mobility, introducing continuous shuttle services to reduce carbon footprint and ensure pedestrian safety. Parking is restricted, with shuttle services from nearby Formigal to minimize environmental impact and promote a pedestrian-friendly environment.
Ticketing and accessibility
Tickets for concerts and shuttle services are available on the festival’s website starting May 10th, with a special €3 entry fee for children under 11. Priority boarding for shuttle services will be assigned based on ticketing, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees.
