Teo Collori & Momento Cigano Unveil Live at WOMEX 23 Video

Slovenian Gypsy Jazz band Teo Collori & Momento Cigano have released a video of their recent performance at the influential world music showcase WOMEX 2023 held in A Coruña, Spain.

Teo Collori, the renowned Slovenian guitar virtuoso, embarked on his current musical career after a fortuitous cinema outing. While already established as a versatile session player and prominent figure in contemporary jazz, it was during a viewing of Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” that he stumbled upon a profound affinity for the Gypsy Swing jazz of Django Reinhardt.

Immersing himself in the repertoire of Django Reinhardt, Teo Collori gathered a cadre of like-minded and talented musicians, culminating in the formation of his Hot Club-style band, Momento Cigano. However, this ensemble is no mere tribute band; instead, Teo Collori and Momento Cigano channel the spirit of Django through Teo’s original compositions, offering a fresh and invigorating interpretation of the maestro’s legacy. This approach was notably highlighted in their acclaimed 2015 debut album, Hot Club Piran, and has continued to evolve across four subsequent releases.

The latest addition to their discography is the album Capitano Della Noche. Teo Collori’s musical career spans two decades, during which he has recorded six original albums. Currently standing as the most active author in the Slovenian jazz scene, his guitar skill resonates on over 100 albums, presenting his diverse musical path from rock and metal to funk, jazz, and ultimately gypsy jazz.

Momento Cigano, founded in 2015, made an impactful debut by securing the “Album of the Year 2015” award on the MuzikObala portal. Teo Collori’s versatility is further demonstrated by his solo on the popular track “Just Jammin” by Gramatik, amassing over 30 million views on YouTube. His rich musical history includes a three-year collaboration with Magnifico and performances with the Stanislav Binički Serbian Army Orchestra.

Presently, Teo Collori serves as the main soloist with the Big Band of RTV Slovenia, where he recently contributed to a recording project.

Musicians: Jošt Lampret on double bass; Matej Kužel on clarinet; Matija Krečič on violin; Metod Banko on rhythm guitar, vocals; and Teo Collori on lead guitar.
