Little Freddie King – Blues Medicine (MadeWright Records, 2022)

Little Freddie King, also known as Dr. Bones, is a revered New Orleans blues musician and Music Maker Foundation artist who has released his most autobiographical album to date, chronicling his journey through life.

The engaging “Blues Medicine” album tells the story of his journey from southern Mississippi as an adolescent to playing in mid-century New Orleans juke joints. He sings about quitting drinking; being cousins with the great Lightnin’ Hopkins; recording the first electric New Orleans blues album; playing every New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest save the first; experiencing violence first-hand; getting stabbed and shot; biking to escape Hurricane Katrina, and more.

Despite all the challenges he faced, his music has always been the medicine that kept him going. He is a country-style blues musician, who is among the last of his kind, and his latest album is earning the most recognition of his career.
