The album “The Sky Is the Same Colour Everywhere” by Kayhan Kalhor and Toumani Diabaté has landed at #1 at the Transglobal World Music Chart for June 2023. It is a collaborative album by two renowned musicians, Kayhan Kalhor and Toumani Diabaté.
The album combines the musical traditions of Persian and Malian repertoires, showcasing the kamancha (spike fiddle) and kora (harp/lute). It is best experienced in one sitting as a spiritual meditation. Both artists are soloists in their own right, but this recording takes them on an improvisational journey, exploring new landscapes. The duo’s musical connection feels as if they had known each other in a previous life.
Kayhan Kalhor is a master of the kamancha from Iran, while Toumani Diabaté is a leading player of the West African kora. The album was conceived after a minimal preparation and a sound check, followed by a 90-minute performance in 2016. They later recorded it in Paris after concluding their European tour.
