Danish Cellist and Vocalist Maja Freese

Maja Freese, hailing from Denmark, possesses a distinguished academic background, having earned a bachelor’s degree in the intricate art of playing the 5-stringed cello from the distinguished folk music department at the Danish National Academy.

Her recent endeavor involves the creation of a captivating musical composition, “Leonoras Morgendigt,” which has been seamlessly integrated into the illustrious 19th edition of Højskolesangbogen. It is within this context that Maja unveils her multifaceted abilities as a vocalist, cellist, and composer, gracing the stage as part of the revered ensemble Vesselil. The trio’s compelling focus lies in illuminating the narratives and convictions of women through the enchanting tapestry of ancient folk melodies.

Moreover, Maja actively engages in numerous other musical collaborations, including her involvement in Vingefang, Barani Duo, Mynsterland, and Bianca Nisha, among other notable constellations.

Her artistic inclinations are driven by an ardent passion for fusing the melodious resonance of the cello with lyrical prowess, thereby infusing music with rhythmic allure. Furthermore, she exhibits a remarkable propensity for reviving and rejuvenating neglected melodies of yore, skillfully unraveling their enduring significance and soul, an endeavor that vocal ensemble Høst ardently admires.
